Felt slightly nauseous earlier this afternoon and a little groggy. Later this evening, I felt extremely tired. Other than that, I feel the same as I always do. I'll keep posting side effects as they occur over the next few days. I've read that they will probably get worse as I progress through the medication, however everyone is different and I may not even feel anything! Let's hope that's the case!!

The Beginning

My journey began in June 2008. My husband and I had been married for nearly two years and we wanted to start a family. I made an appointment with my OB/GYN to discuss some fertility treatment options since I don't ovulate regularly. I haven't been formally diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) , but I've done enough research to understand that I most likely have it. The Dr. said that I don't produce the hormone to ovulate.

In June 2008, I was told that I would need to have a procedure called a hysteropalpingogram (or HSG for short). It's a procedure where they inject iodine into the uterus to see if there are any blockages in my fallopian tubes. In May 2009, I finally got up the courage to make the appointment for the test. I was so nervous! I took the 4 antibiotic pills all at once that she had prescribed and it made my stomach queasy. The Pepto Bismal helped alot!! I went the next morning and had the test done. I made sure I took 2 Advil before the procedure. It was very similar to a pap test. I had no discomfort at all! I felt a couple of menstrual-like cramps, but nothing unbearable. The lady that was in there before me for the same procedure was screaming in pain. I guess she must have had a blockage. The procedure took about 5 minutes and I was able to see the images in real time on the screen. Very neat!! The results indicated that I had no blockages in my tubes and everything was clear.
The next step....a semen analysis. How easy do men have it!! I get stuck on a gernie with my legs in the air, having dye injected into my woohoo and my husband gets to well...need I explain any more?!

Today I went in to see the Dr. again for a follow up. She prescribed me some medication called Clomid. I have to start taking it on Cycle Day(CD) 5 through 9. Not looking forward to some of the symptoms: Dizzines, hot flashes, nausea, sore breasts. The Dr. also said that I have a 5% increase in the chance of conceiving multiples with the medication. Twins would be kind of neat!
I am so relieved and excited to begin this journey. I have a feeling that it's not going to be easy, but we will do whatever is necessary for us to start a family in the next year.
Here's to success with the medication and to the journey ahead!
